Please press the reset button on the back of NAS for 3 seconds. You will hear 1 long beep. It will reset the admin password to default “admin” and set the network as DHCP.Your data will be left intact.
Where is the reset button?

admin / admin
What is the defauld IP adress? (Download Qnapfinder software if you coulnd find Qnap IP. If there is no DHCP)
http://169.254.100.100:8080
Please check the following for more detail: http://docs.qnap.com/nas/en/index.html?hardware.htm
.
Advanced system reset (10 sec)
Dont keep pressing after first beep sound!
If you press the reset button for 10 seconds, you will hear two beeps at the third and the tenth seconds. The NAS will reset all the system settings to default as it does by the web-based system reset in “Administration” > “Restore to Factory Default” except all the data are reserved. The settings such as the users, user groups, and the network shares previously created will be cleared. To retrieve the old data after advanced system reset, create the same network shares on the NAS and the data will be accessible again.

II – Password Reset Doesnt Work, / I Disable Reset Button Function On Qnap Menu And Now Forget My Password So What Can I Do?
Q : Why the administrator password cannot be reset after pressing the reset button?
A : If the option “Enable configuration reset switch” is not enabled in Hardware Settings of System Tools, administrator password will not be restored when you press the reset button. In such case, you have to send the server for RMA.
Or You Can Solve This Problem By This Way;
1 –Turn off the device. Remove Disks Drives and start device without any HDD installed ; (Do not forget the order of your HDDs!)
2 -You will hear a beep after pressing the power button, followed by 2 beeps in a few minutes later. Open Qnapfinder, double Click to be sure that you can enter Qnap setup screen. Close this installation screen and Place your HDD’s in right order. (Do not start the installation. The installation process will causes you to lose data on your HDDs)
3 – Download Putty software;
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
4 –Log with putty by entering the Qnap IP / user name / password. (Username / Password: admin / admin will. Port need to enter 22.)
Now Plugin All HDD’s With Right Order!
Now enter these command down below; (Choose command from this screen and “copy” Then go to putty, just press right mouse button once. By this way, you can paste commands automaticly)
# config_util 1 ->
# storage_boot_init 1 ->
# df
# cp /etc/default_config/shadow /mnt/HDA_ROOT/.config/
# rm -r /etc/config
# ln -sf /mnt/HDA_ROOT/.config /etc/config
# setcfg -f /etc/config/shadow Misc configured TRUE
and then Type;
# cp /etc/default_config/passwd /mnt/HDA_ROOT/.config/
# rm -r /etc/config
# ln -sf /mnt/HDA_ROOT/.config /etc/config
# setcfg -f /etc/config/passwd Misc configured TRUE
# reboot
6 – Now your Username : admin, and Password : admin
.
III – I Have Encrypted RAID And Now Forget My Password, Can I Recover My Datas?
Nope, Because;
Hard drive encryption
- Up to AES 256-bit encryption for internal and external drives
- Military level FIPS 140-2 protection
Internal drive AES 256-bit encryption
The Turbo NAS supports volume-based encryption to protect sensitive data. A security key or password is required to mount an encrypted volume when the Turbo NAS boots up. All the data cannot be accessed without the encryption key. It prevents the Turbo NAS data from unauthorized access and data breach even if the hard drives or the device were stolen.
External USB/eSATA drive encryption
An external drive attached to the Turbo NAS means easy removal. The important data on the drive needs a solution to protect the data against theft. The Turbo NAS now supports encrypting USB/eSATA hard drives to prevent unauthorized access to the content when they are lost or stolen. IT administrator can choose to encrypt a disk volume or a specific partition in the external drive at the encryption levels: AES-128, AES-192, AES-256.
Hard drives with the file systems EXT4, EXT3, FAT 32, NTFS, or HFS+ are supported.
Military level security
A military level FIPS 140-2 validated encryption, which is considered to be the highest security certification for compliance, is adopted automatically for both internal and external hard drive encryption.
Hi, after using the SSH technique, will my shared folders/permissions/users be preserved?
Yes, you lost all of your users permissions and users
i try this method but
not reset my password
5 sec one beep and trying web panel login
admin / admin
wrong user name and password why ?
This maybe the problem;
Q : Why the administrator password cannot be reset after pressing the reset button?
A : If the option “Enable configuration reset switch” is not enabled in Hardware Settings of System Tools, administrator password will not be restored when you press the reset button
Also please try to restart Qnap and try reset button once again. If it doesnt work, try long reset. And if it doesnt work once again, please try to reset password via using SSH (putty)
Yes maybe not enable thank u.
i try different method..
Thats confirm with Qnap Firmware 4.1.0? I have the Problem, the HDD are encrypted and i forget the admin password, i have the encryption password.
SSH Method worked perfect for me.
I couldn’t use the reset button and the NAS wouldn’t recognize my password. After this, standard passwort “admin worked and I could access all my data!
