1 – Number Of HDD Slots;

Qnap supports Between 1 HDD to 24 HDD each single device.

2 – CPU / RAM / RAID Based Data Tranfer Ratings;

For example Ts 412 U data write speed is around 40 Mb, and used at small campanies for data sharing or for backup jobs;

Ts-459-PII with Intel CPU  write performance is around 100 mb, and used for file sharing;

EC 1279 U-RP Model Data transfer rate is down below and this device is used at business for very fast data transfer process;

+If you plan to use Qnap only for backup, or home usege, you can choose a begining device just like “x12″ series. But, If you plan to use Qnap at the center of our campany, more than 70 user plan to use it at the same time, and you need high upload / download speed (around 120 mb), I Highly recommand you to choose “x69 / x79″ series.

+Its Importand how much size that you need. Qnap use RAID system for data security and protection. Generally RAID 1 is prefered for 2 HDD supported device, and RAID 5 & 6 is preferes for 4/5/6/8/10/12/16 HDD supported devices.

2.    What kind RAID is use for the NAS? Our RAID is software RAID, and hardware RAID is not supported. Our software RAID uses the Marvell SATA controller and Intel CPU to give our NAS devices fast performance levels. 3.    What type of Hard Drives do we support? QNAP NAS devices do not come with any hard drives and there is no specific QNAP hard drive. Almost every device supports both 2.5″ or 3.5″ SATA and SSD drives. Currently the largest hard drive capacity available is 4 TB , so the TS-EC1679U-RP can support 64 TB of storage. 10.  How much noise does the NAS make? The noise level depends on each unit, but generally all of our units are quite during standby mode. All NAS comes with a smart fan application so you can control when the fan turns on for example turn on at a specific temperature. 11.  If we run out of storage capacity for the NAS what are our options? There is a RAID capacity expansion feature that allows you to remove your HDD one by one and replace the smaller capacity to a larger capacity. 12.  Can you directly connect the NAS to a computer via USB or e-SATA? No, our products are Network Attached Storage (NAS). We are not a Direct Attached Storage (DAS), and the only way to access directly to the NAS would be through the network ports either through the 1GbE port or 10 GbE port. The USB and e-SATA ports are reserved for storage expansion.

 

13.  Do you have dual controllers? Currently all of our NAS devices do not come with dual controllers. This feature is on our road map and we are working on dual controller NAS. For immediate solution, please refer to our system migration feature. This feature allows you to remove hard drives from one QNAP NAS and into another QNAP NAS. 15.  What’s the difference between TS-x69Pro and TS-x69L? TS-x69 Pro series support SATA III HDD (6Gb/s), lockable tray, and has a LCD screen. Both the TS-x69 Pro and TS-x69L uses the Intel^® Atom™ 2.13 GHz Dual-core Processor except for the TS-269L. The TS-269 L uses the Intel^® Atom™ 1.86 GHz Dual-core Processor.

16.  What is the warranty terms and support terms for the QNAP device? For all QNAP Products:

o    The NAS and NVR series products carry 2 years limited warranty for all units purchased after August 1st 2010, and 1 year limited warranty purchased before August 1st 2010.

18.  How many watts does the NAS take up? The energy consumption of our NAS depends on the unit. The following figures are an estimate of energy consumption without hard drives. Please note that each hard drive generally uses around 8-10 watts. For our Entry Level Enterprise units with Dual Core Intel i3 processor or Quad Core Intel Xeon Processor the units use around 70 watts. For our SMB units that use the Intel^® Atom Processor the unit uses around 10 watts. For our Home series units that use the Marvell Arm Processor the units use around 2 watt.

19.  Can I stream movies and music through the QNAP NAS or my home media setup? Can I also share photos through the QNAP software and my social media sites? Yes, the QNAP NAS can be easily used as a full fledge media server to stream music or videos. This can either be done directly with the QNAP Video Station and the QNAP Photo Station. In addition our NAS device can also be easily integrated into your home multimedia setup. A iTunes server can also be created so all music in the NAS will show up on all computers on your network with iTunes. 22.  Read and write speed of Home series NAS and Business series NAS Our NAS devices have the highest performance in the NAS market. The Read and Write speed varies on the unit and the type of hard drives used, and the following numbers are estimates when both networks ports are bonded. SOHO NAS can reach 50 MB/s Read and 60 MB/s Write, SMB series can reach up to 221.8 MB/sec Read and 220.8 MB/sec Write Entry level enterprise can reach 2025 MB/s Read and 2038 MB/s Write (using 10 GbE). Each of our NAS devices can saturate your bandwidth fully. For example you can expect at least 125 GB/s for our SMB series.

23.  What OS does the NAS use? We have our own software, based off of Linux. All processes are controlled through our web administration management page. Standard Linux 2.6, on the way to migrate to latest stable release.

24.  How many users can access the NAS at once? A maximum of 4096 user can access the NAS, but ultimately it depends on how heavy each individual process takes.

25.  What kind of encryption is supported? Does it affect the performance? If the NAS is Intel based , the QNAP NAS will support volume-based 256-bit AES encryption for data breach protection. Performance levels will be effected if encryption is activated for our Intel Atom based units. For Intel Atom Based units the Read and Write performance is expecting to be around 20-30 MB/s. For our enterprise units powered by the Intel i3 or Intel Xeon processors the performance levels will not be affected. 26.  Do you support the new MAC OS/Window OS? Yes, QNAP will always update the firmware to work with any new MAC OS/Window OS. 27.  How many cameras does the NAS support? Different NAS models will support different numbers of cameras. Our TS-x79 Series comes with 1 free camera license and once licenses are added it will support up to 40 cameras through the license store. Our TS-x69 Series comes with 1 free camera license and can support up to 16 cameras through the license store. Our TS-x19 PII and TS-x12 series comes with 1 free camera license and support up to 8 cameras.

32.  Is your devices DLNA certified? Yes, our NAS is DLNA certified. 34.  Do you support advance networking for the dual Gigabit LAN Ports? For the Dual Gigabit LAN ports that comes with each of our unit there is multiple features that can be used.

1. 0.    Port Trunking to bond both Gigabit LAN ports together for increase speeds. Balance-rr (Round-Robin), Balance XOR, Broadcast, IEEE 802.3ad (Dynamic Link Aggregation), Balance-tlb (Adaptive Transmit Load Balancing), and Balance-alb (Adaptive Load Balancing).
2. 1.    Failover can be configured to provide continuous services when one network port fails.
3. 2.    Load balancing can be configured to aggregate bandwidth to boost file transfer speed and balance network loading.
