What is MyCloudNAS?
The MyCloudNAS service of the QNAP NAS is the best cloud computing solution providing users with great personal cloud experience. It is the ideal storage solution for both home and small business users who want to set up their own cloud storage to access their files on the NAS anytime, anywhere with the Internet.
For Home Users
With the MyCloudNAS service you can upload, download, and stream your digital media from your QNAP NAS anytime for your personal enjoyment or for easy delivery of services to your family and friends. This also includes mobile handsets such as the iPhone, Android, and the iPad through the QMobile app which gives you the freedom to access your digital contents on the go. MyCloudNAS gives users unlimited access to their digital contents so they will never get tired of their picture, movies, and music.
For Small Business
MyCloudNAS will let you enjoy the massive storage volume of your NAS without ever paying a subscription fee. Each QNAP NAS owner can establish the cloud computing environment easily through a guided process by a wizard during the initial setup. The private cloud environment gives users a convenient way to easily access and share their data from the NAS. For example when you travel outside and away from your office, you can access the files stored on the NAS securely from Web File Manager or on any Internet browser. From the Web based manager you can download, upload, and access the files you need. In addition, QNAP provides cloud storage backup to securely protect your data. Your important data can be securely transferred to another remote NAS or even to third party cloud storage service providers. Your irreplaceable data is securely stored at an offsite location establishing another level of protection on to QNAP reliable data protection platform.
Setting Up MyCloudNAS
MyCloudNAS Service consists of MyCloudNAS Wizard, Configure MyCloudNAS Name, and Auto Router Configuration. You are recommended to use MyCloudNAS Wizard to complete the entire settings. For further modifications, you may select to use the other two options. Please follow the instructions for the first time setup.
MyCloudNAS Wizard
Login the NAS as an administrator and go to “MyCloudNAS Service” > “MyCloudNAS Wizard”. Follow the steps below to finish the settings.
“Express Setup” is set to be default and will map the port numbers for HTTP, -and FTP/FTPS services automatically. To specify the services manually, please select “Manual Setup”. After you have selected setup mode, click “Next”.
(Note: The default port numbers for the services are HTTP: 8080, HTTP: 80, FTP/FTPS: 21/20. To modify the default port numbers, you may go to the configuration page for each service of the NAS.)
Step 1. Detect UPnP Router and Internet Connection
The Wizard will start to detect if there is UPnP router on the local network and the NAS is connected to the Internet.
If no UPnP router can be found or the NAS is not connected to the Internet, please refer to the error messages for troubleshooting, and then click “Next”.
Step 2. Register a MyCloudNAS Name
Enter a host name and select a domain name as your MyCloudNAS name. Click “Check” to see if your host name is available, and then click “Next”.
Step 3. Auto Router Configuration (Port Forwarding)
This page will only be shown during “Manual Setup”. Select the services with the corresponding port numbers to be opened on the router for Internet access and then click “Next”.
(Note: During “Express Setup”, step 3 will be skipped and the wizard will open the ports of HTTP (8080), HTTP (80) and FTP/FTPS (21, 20) services automatically.)
Step 4. Publish Web-based NAS Services
Only the services with the corresponding port numbers you have selected to be opened in step 3 will be shown in this window. You may enable these services if they are not in service yet, and select the web-based services to be published on MyCloudNAS portal website (www.mycloudnas.com). Then click “Next”.
Step 5. Show error messages for troubleshooting
You may refer to the error messages and the troubleshooting link for further help after applying the settings.
Step 6. Download Accessible URLS
Upon successful configuration, you can view the settings summary and download the accessible URLs of the published NAS services. Simply send the links to your friends and they can access the NAS services you wish to share by just clicking on the links.
Access your NAS remotely by MyCloudNAS name in the ways below:
Access QNAP NAS remotely by MyCloudNAS name:
1. Open a web browser and enter the NAS URL, e.g. http://ts439.mycloudnas.com:8080.
2.Go to MyCloudNAS portal website http://www.mycloudnas.com and enter the MyCloudNAS name. Click “Go”.
All the public NAS services will be shown.
Note: You can access the NAS services with the corresponding port numbers which are opened for remote access by direct URLs even if they were not published on MyCloudNAS portal website.
Login MyCloudNAS service on the top right corner to view the private services.
Configure MyCloudNAS name
MyCloudNAS name is a domain name similar to those you can register from DDNS (dynamic DNS) services to identify your NAS on the Internet. This service converts an Internet IP address into a domain name (e.g. “74.125.153.104” into “www.google.com”) even though the NAS does not have a fixed WAN IP address. Therefore you will be able to connect to the NAS remotely by MyCloudNAS Service.
Login the web administration interface of the NAS. Go to “MyCloudNAS Service” > “Configure MyCloudNAS”, enable the service and register a MyCloudNAS name. You can also register another name for the NAS.
Note:
1. The MyCloudNAS name of each QNAP NAS is unique. One MyCloudNAS name can only be used with one NAS.
2. A registered MyCloudNAS name will expire in 120 days if the NAS has not been online within the period. Once the name is expired, it will be released for new registration by other users.
Go to “MyCloudNAS Service” > “Configure MyCloudNAS” > “Publish Services”, select the web-based services to be published on MyCloudNAS portal website. Select “Private” to hide the published NAS services from public access. The private services on MyCloudNAS website are only visible to specified users with MyCloudNAS Access Code.
Set up MyCloudNAS Access Code. Click “Add Users” to select the local NAS users who are allowed to access the private services by MyCloudNAS Connect service and/or MyCloudNAS website.
Click “Send Invitation” to send an invitation email with/without a reset password link to the users. Click “Send”.
The reset password link allows users to change their own password.
* The link will expire in 24 hours after delivery or after the user changes the password.
Auto Router Configuration
MyCloudNAS Service supports auto port forwarding for the UPnP (Universal Plug-and-Play network protocol) router. By this function, the NAS can detect the UPnP-enabled router on your local network and open the port numbers on the router automatically for remote access to the NAS.
Go to “MyCloudNAS Service” > “Auto Router Configuration”, you can enable UPnP Port Forwarding function, manually scan UPnP router on your local network, and select the services with corresponding port numbers to be opened on the router.
Set up MyCloudNAS Connect service
MyCloudNAS Connect helps users access the published services of the NAS quickly and securely. Download the utility from:http://eu1.qnap.com/Storage/Utility/MyCloudNASConnect.zip. Follow the instructions in the invitation email of MyCloudNAS service to configure the settings.
1. Install and run MyCloudNAS Connect. Click 
to open the setup wizard.
2. Enter the MyCloudNAS name of the NAS as the “Internet Address” and enter the connection name.
3. Enter the user name, password, and MyCloudNAS Access Code.
4. Select other options and click “Finish”.
5. Enter the login credentials and click “OK”.
6. After the connection is established, double click the NAS icon or click 
to access the published services on MyCloudNAS website.
| Note1: If there are two or more UPnP routers on your network, only the one that is set to be default gateway of the NAS will be detected. Note2: If two or more NAS servers are connected to the same UPnP router on your network, please set different port numbers for the same service on the NAS servers. Note3: If your router does not support UPnP function, you need to configure port forwarding manually on your router. Please refer to the links below:
